The Pompton Valley Music Teachers Association is committed to advancing the musical education of students, enriching the lives of the community, and professional development for our members through recitals, master classes, lectures and workshops. These core values contribute to the nurturing and supportive environment for teachers, students and their families. The professional, yet friendly, atmosphere is conducive to musical and personal growth allowing the students to build their performing confidence throughout their formative years. Awards and scholarships are presented to students at various levels of achievement.

PAST

Pompton Valley Music Teachers Association was officially incorporated January 17th, 1972; although it had been an active organization dating back to the 1950's.  In the beginning most events were held in members' homes.  Original founders Nellie Douglas, Daphne Kremzner and Elaine Crane of Pompton Plains, with Betty Hermanni and Chloe Di Salvo of Pompton Lakes were dedicated to their students and the music teaching profession.  With the assistance of their friend Seymour Bernstein, PVMTA purchased a beautiful 1890 Steinway C grand piano and began to hold their performance events at Christ Church in Pompton Lakes.  Their mission, "to promote and further the appreciation and enjoyment of music among the people, young and old, of the Township of Pequannock in the County of Morris in the State of New Jersey and of the neighboring communities" continues today with many current members who were mentored by these teachers.

PRESENT

Remaining true to the original intentions of the organization, PVMTA currently serves the communities of Northern New Jersey.  Music teachers from surrounding counties become members in order to continue their education through master classes, professional development lecturers and workshops as well as to present their students in performances in a professional, yet intimate, and nurturing setting.

FUTURE

Music remains one of the most rewarding forms of self-expression through centuries of technological evolution.  Our lives are enriched by musical and artistic endeavors.  PVMTA, through its ongoing activities and events is dedicated to creating an educational and inspiring organization for its teachers, students and their families.
