The Seymour Bernstien Scholarship and the Diane Battersby Memorial Scholarship
Students continuing their education in music may apply for the scholarship that best suits their plans.
The Seymour Bernstien Scholarship for students majoring in music.
The Diane Battersby Memorial Scholarship for students continuing their education in any music field.
Eligibility:
- A high school student who has been accepted as a music major (Seymour Bernstein) or any field of muisc (Diane Battersby Memorial) at an accredited college or university and is currently a student of a PVMTA member.
- Applicant must have studied a minimum of 3 years with a PVMTA member.
- Applicant must have participated in PVMTA Student Recitals and either as a listener or performer at PVMTA Student Master Classes.
Application Procedure:
- The applicant’s teacher must submit a letter of recommendation to the scholarship chair.
- The student applicant must submit a letter indicating their plans for a career in music and a resume listing their PVMTA participation to the scholarship chair.
- Application deadline April 1st.
Distribution:
A committee of members present at the April or May general meeting will review and vote on the scholarship applicant's eligibility and the amount to be awarded. The Seymour Bernstein Scholarship will be paid in two installments, 50% presented to the student following their performance at a recital in April or May and 50% upon receipt of the student’s first semester transcripts. The Diane Battersby Memorial Scholarship will be presented to the student following their performance at a recital in April or May.

Sofia Feigin Memorial Scholarship
The Sofia Feigin Memorial Scholarship for the Later Beginner with Outstanding Progress.
Eligibility:
- A later beginner student (beginning age 12 and up) who demonstrates a love for music and the piano, an exceptional dedication to her/her studies, and an extraordinary level of accomplishment. Student must have performed in at least one PVMTA Recital or Master Class prior to applying.
Application Procedure:
- The PVMTA member/teacher should submit a letter to the PVMTA board outlining the student’s length of study and accomplishments. Limit one application per teacher, per year.
- Application deadline April 1st.
Distribution:
$180, awarded annually. The award will be presented by Anna Katznelson or the President when the student performs in a student recital or at the May general meeting if the student is an adult.
